‘United United’ Day: A Joint Protest Against Glazers’ Ownership
For twenty years, the Glazers have treated Manchester United as a personal cash cow, draining over £1 billion from the club while lining their own pockets. This has led to a club in disrepair, supporters priced out, and a future under their control that looks increasingly bleak.
On Saturday 29th March, The 1958 and FC United of Manchester will come together on ‘United United Day’ – a unique show of strength and solidarity. Fans will unite at Broadhurst Park before FC United’s fixture against Stockton Town to make it clear that enough is enough.
The 1958 has been at the forefront of the opposition to the Glazers’ regime, leading protests and standing up for Manchester United fans. FC United of Manchester, founded 20 years ago, was born from the same spirit of resistance. FC United continues to stand as a powerful symbol of what happens when fans unite to resist corporate control of the game.
The 1958 and FC United of Manchester are both committed to working together in solidarity, and we’re proud to announce our united stance. Our histories are entwined, and we are united in our goal to see Manchester United returned to responsible ownership, where the interests of fans come first.
Timeline of the Day
Broadhurst Park is a fan-friendly environment. The ground is unsegregated and all tickets are general admission so you can stand or sit wherever you like. There are three bars in the ground and you can
have a drink on the terraces, so supporters are encouraged to arrive early and meet up with your fellow United fans.
- 1.00pm – fans will meet outside Broadhurst Park for a show of strength with banners and flags
- 1.30pm – representatives of the 1958 will appear in ‘Course You Can Malcolm’ in the SMRE Bar to give an update on their campaign and for a Q&A session alongside FC United of Manchester representatives.
- 2.30pm – supporters will gather on the large terrace behind the goal (the SMRE) for a show of solidarity, displaying banners and flags (please note that, in line with the law, pyro is not allowed in the ground)
- 3.00pm – the match against Stockton Town kicks off.
Supporters can pay on the gate, but to assist with planning, we encourage advance ticket advance ticket purchases via Fanbase
Further updates on arrangements will be shared throughout the week on our websites and social media channels.
Statement from The 1958
For over 20 years the United fanbase have been fractured. The “United United” day protest is a show of intent. It’s a stand for affordable football. It’s a stand for fan culture. It’s a stand for responsible ownership.
It’s also a stand to show who the enemy really is; the Glazers.
For too long Reds have been pitted against Reds. No more. This needs to stop.
The first step on our strategy was to speak to FC United, who led the way in 2005 and warned about the dangers of Glazer back then. We reached out to FC United because we firmly believe that theGlazers have divided and fractured our fanbase for their own goals for far too long.
We intend to heal the damage they have caused and we are committed to unify us all under a common unified cause.
This reconciliation was long overdue and our discussions have revealed mutual respect and common ground.
We both stand for affordable football, responsible ownership, and protecting fan culture with actions not words.
There are no egos in The 1958; we will take the steps needed to unite. Everyone has their own reasons and own ways to protest, and we respect that.
At heart we are all United fans, we all have that fire burning inside us and the anger at one family who have inflicted untold generational damage.
The Great War to save our club and our national game is about to begin.
Statement from FC United of Manchester
FC United of Manchester was born from frustration with the Glazers’ control of Manchester United.
20 years later, we continue to stand as an alternative – offering a fan-owned, affordable football experience. Our message remains the same: we stand together in solidarity, demanding responsible ownership at Manchester United.
The Glazer family has pillaged Manchester United and divided the fanbase for two decades. This cannot go on.
The 1958 reached out to us and our discussions have affirmed that our goals are aligned; Manchester United has no future whilst the Glazers retain control of the club. The interests of supporters must be the key priority at Manchester United, as they must be at every football club.
In an age where it is all too easy for supporters to believe that they are powerless and simply keep their heads down, The 1958 have continued to stand up and demonstrate their opposition to the Glazer occupation at Old Trafford. We are proud to stand with them and say: enough is enough.
FC United of Manchester has always been a 100% fan-owned club, offering affordable football and a true community atmosphere. Whether you are priced out of Old Trafford or seeking something different, FC United offers a place for supporters to make their own choices. That has never changed, and it never will.
United United Day is our opportunity to show that, despite the challenges, Manchester United supporters are far from powerless. Together, we are strong, and our movement will continue to grow.
The day will be a historic event in the fight for responsible ownership at Manchester United, showing that together, we are stronger. We are united, and this is just the beginning.
Join us on Saturday 29th March to show your support and solidarity with The 1958 and FC United of Manchester.
Together, we will make a statement against the Glazers and for a future where supporters have a say.
We Are Stronger United

First of all well done. This is a great initiative. Im an international fan, with just as much love for United as many of you. How do we get involved? Can you also figure out a way to show the protests live on YouTube or some channel. It feels as if a large international community is being left out.
